Problem Statement

Tons of usable sports equipment are discarded each year by schools, clubs, and athletic organizations while under-resourced communities, both locally and globally, lack basic equipment to support youth recreation and physical development. This disconnect not only contributes to unnecessary waste but also widens the gap in access to sports and the benefits they bring.

Project Overview

Reduced sports equipment waste by collecting, refurbishing, and redistributing used gear to communities in need. The project began with audits of local sports programs to identify surplus equipment and partnered with local sports stores to handle necessary repairs. A logistics network coordinates the movement of gear, enabling donations to be made to homeless shelters, underfunded schools, and international aid programs. Pilot drop-offs validate the system and were used to refine operations before expanding through a broader network of partner organizations. The initiative diverts hundreds of pieces of equipment from landfills, supports physical activity in underserved communities, and shares its impact through infographics, a dedicated website, and media coverage.
